Mike The neighbor boy, out of what Must have been a terrible loneliness, Used to call and say, simply, “Mike,” Which was his own name, and to which There was no way to answer But to say, “Want to come over?” Maybe this is the proper way to pray — To say your own name into the ear Of something somehow both Close and far away And trust that You'll be welcomed.
I love the initial simplicity of this poem, and yet there is some depth within it. Most notably in the final stanza, and I really enjoyed these lines:
Of something somehow both
Close and far away
And trust that
You'll be welcomed.
But I think also in the first stanza too. Though I can't quite but words to it just yet. It touched a deep part of my soul. Thank you for sharing.
