Those Couples

One of those couples who’ve said everything
There is to say to one another sit
Now in perfect silence for hours from
Iceland to Chicago still wearing the
Lanyards they wore on the cruise through the fjords
On which they also said hardly a word 
Though once a day one or the other would
Point out something they knew the other had
Noticed too and the other would nod like
Someone who has finally accepted
Something completely unacceptable.
