The Theologian
The Theologian The theologian wakes beside his wife, Reads the Times over breakfast, And, around nine, Begins to think about God. He lives so close, He can walk to school. He likes the campus coffee shop, The privacy of his office, His relatively light schedule. He is always available, His door open to the hall, As comfortable ironing out Departmental issues As he is talking about kenosis. As his career has progressed, He has found himself Thinking more about teaching And less about God. But he does think about Him, Beginning at around nine, Ending around five, When he walks home, Watches the news while eating dinner, And goes to bed, Trusting that At some point During the day, He must have prayed.
