Storms
I remember the green light of storms On long afternoons, the mail already come. Thunder like someone upstairs, A visiting cousin who will have to Come down eventually for supper. The tender green farm at risk of harm Like an arm thrust into a thresher. It is through storms that we know Another time, a woman Who may or may not be our mother, Her face blurred by the porch screen, But her voice is clear.
