Rome and Prague
Rome and Prague
Rome is white Carrara marble.
Prague is stone black with soot.
Rome is eternal.
Prague is locked in time.
There are churches in Rome too beautiful to pray in.
The churches in Prague look like bats with golden souls.
Rome is wine.
Prague is beer.
Rome could never have produced a Kafka.
Prague could never have produced a Caravaggio.
Each city has a river vaulted by bridges.
Standing on one of these bridges, one is in neither city.
One is on a bridge above a river.
Go this way, you’re in Rome.
Go that way, you’re in Prague.
