Partially Overcast
Better the skies be partially overcast
Than completely clear
When it comes to the sun and her
Circus stunts, which we call
Each other outside to see,
To ooh and to ahh at —
Were there no clouds there
Would be nothing for her
To work with, like a tightrope
Walker who, having climbed
The ladder, finds
They’ve forgotten to run
The tightrope out for her,
Or a swinger of the trapeze
Without a trapeze to swing on.
So we should be grateful
For clouds and pray
There be neither none nor
Too many — may your
Dawns and dusks be
Overcast partially.
