One Knight
One Knight
To protect this island from invasion
The last knight ordered that the dead knights be
Dug up and their loose armor unbuckled
From their skeletons some were missing
Limbs some had fractured skulls they didn’t
Need the armor anymore the young knight
He was just eighteen his older brothers
And his father were among the dead
Had the women and children climb inside
The chainmail and plate armor stinking
Of the flesh that had rotted inside it
Like that of crabs dead in their shells
The helmets slipping over their eyes
And had them stand atop the castle wall
Gleaming in the sun to make the pirates
Believe there were hundreds when really
There was only one or was there one
Knight in each and this the time before
