Negatives
Plate glass negatives found in an attic
Because some loved one died untidily.
Her daughter-in-law almost threw them
Into the dumpster with everything else,
But something about the way that
They were wrapped in old newspaper
Made her hesitate, set them aside.
They were found to be holding nostalgically
Onto light that had shone before anyone
Alive had been alive. The light itself held
Onto fashions that had come and gone,
Faces long since melted off their skulls,
Dogs blurred because they wouldn’t sit still.
But to this day no one knows who took them.
