Mountains in Heat
Mountains in Heat
They float like outsized hats
Set upon the heads of children
At funerals to make them laugh
I suspected all along
They were lighter
Than they look
But in the cool of morning
Their effaced bases
Will appear again
Mountains are like transplants
You were sure
Wouldn’t take root
Or like the bereaved
Whose legs were taken
Out by grief
But who are
So…
