As if some low hum in you is being
Drawn out through your ears like 
   gossamer 
Replaced by a different sort of hum
The hum of office machines warm
From printing and scanning
The records of visits and growths
The Library of Alexandria of billing
Here the backs of computer monitors
Look like faces at certain hours
And the water in the breakroom is 
So cold it hurts the quiet girl's teeth
Such places were built with  
   emergencies
In mind were built to code were built
To make you feel both small and held
In hands that can at any moment
Drop you throw you away
