Letter to England
This is just to inform you that
We have here a vast quantity
Of your Queen Anne’s lace.
It is strewn everywhere,
Along roadside ditches,
In highway medians.
The meadows are fairly full of it.
Would it be too personal to inquire
As to how your queen’s undergarments
Came to be here,
In northwestern Illinois?
If you wish for me to form a party
To gather them for your majesty,
Know that I would be honored to do so,
For a queen must not live
Laceless for long.
