Last Words
No one intends their last words
To be the last
Words they say
Unaccustomed as we are
To finalities
And are they truly final
Considering that
The silence that follows them
Makes them more poignant
In retrospect
And how can we say
They are ours
When they must be said
By others if
They’re to be remembered
So that our last words go on
Being said
While we listen
