Flight
Flight
Near the airport lives a girl
Whose heart is winged.
She might take flight
Were her life not so heavy.
Within the airport fence are flowers
That wish to transition.
Something in them wants to be
What the world says they aren't.
On the runway a man works
Loading and unloading luggage.
How many lives has he, groaning, lifted?
His back is sore from the weight of them.
From this green place we shall
Vault to other green places,
Leaving this girl, these flowers, this man
Who knows what a life weighs behind.
May they one day know this
Weightlessness, one day look down
On a world that is growing
Smaller without them.
